Frantoio Manni

The project is part of the Amiata Valley, a hilly area in southern Tuscany on the slopes of Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano.

The project, with the aim of maximizing the naturalistic and landscape component of these hills, consists of a system of parallel partitions that recall agricultural terraces on uneven land of the past. The green-treated roofs are placed on these walls so as to make the building disappear into the landscape.

The building through these partitions therefore emerges as a pure and absolute element, devoid of formal characterizations, inserted in a strongly identifying landscape context against which it does not contrast, but on the contrary, tries to remain as neutral and integrated as possible.

The treatment of these partitions involves the use of a dark gray color system material with the geomorphological volcanic origins of the Amiata and composed of a stone conglomerate with visible aggregates and of different sizes that give the product a material character.

The oil mill building was conceived and designed to have a minimal visual impact and be considered as an intervention of great landscape compatibility.

The linear artifact fits into the natural slope of the land without changing the area’s orography.
